If you’ve been playing in the #neurosandbox for any length of time you are likely familiar with compensation patterns. You’re probably knowledgeable in how they develop in times of stress or trauma. And you likely know how to map out and in some way pair these patterns. Depending on what you find, you have a specific protocol that you love in order to help the human in front of you. But do you know what is actually going on there?

I’m going to be straight with you. Shocker. Whether you are ‘releasing’ a muscle, clearing a neuroreceptor, or balancing an energetic blip you are assisting the CNS to desensitize a signal and operate in a parasympathetic mode.

Demystifying Compensation Patterns.

Can it really be that simple? Why not? The Systems had trouble receiving information and decided to put it off until later to #protectthehuman.

The breaking point, whatever that is or what you subscribe to, became hypersensitive and created a support network of these compensation patterns. As it continued to go untreated or inadequately processed by the CNS it became more sensitive to further neurostimulus and built a larger network to keep the human moving forward.

Let’s use an example of a minor repetitive use injury and the associated muscles as a way to understand this process. In a low level of dysfunction the associated muscles are strong, but not optimal. These are the patterns you find when testing strong to strong relationships with manual muscle testing.

As the area continues to be subjected to repeated use and neurostimulus it fatigues. The primary associated muscle will now weaken though its supporting muscles will be strong. This is an important clue when using muscle testing to map your patterns. If you don’t find the weak muscle to be the primary, king, upregulated piece of the puzzle one of two things has likely happened. One, you don’t have the main pair. Or, two, something is off in your testing and you should go back and do your work slower and without any preconceived notions or attachment in what you will find.

Increased stimulus, continued use, living within the strategy instead of shifting into and out of it results in your higher level pairings. Muscles are weak, the supporting muscles are weak, and muscles that have nothing to do with the true issue have been recruited to help out. These compensation patterns are often the things we find that give relief to our clients’ numerous complaints when mapped and treated.

Decrease the noise.

It really is that simple. By using whatever methods you have chosen your ultimate goal is to decrease the signal that sent things sideways.

When you can turn down the noise, the Systems are then able to use their ability to self regulate and bring the rest of the pattern back to better operating level. The Systems are now better equipped to apply resources to what needs healing, and shift through subtle sensory experiences to integrate them appropriately.

Focus can be restored on healing what needs to be healed. And isn’t that where the focus should be? Definitely not distracted by all the static noise of compensation patterns that have built their own compensation patterns.
